On cost per hour of scent, melts win comfortably against candles — a single cube runs for many hours, and the warmer is a one-time purchase. Turning the scent off instantly is also a real advantage over waiting for a candle to be safe to leave.
The real weaknesses: throw is weaker than a well-made candle at the same price, because a wick and flame move air in a way a warming plate doesn't.
